The official highlight reel for #MHeFF24, The first film festival with a heart 💛

The Manchester Health Film Festival is the only Manchester-based film festival to champion health discourse through the power of cinema; Bringing together filmmakers, health professionals, and the public to spark conversations around health.

The festival debuted in November 2024, with 110 seats reserved, 18 films screened and 8 awards given out. In total, 14 health conditions were covered within the screened films alone, without considering the charity stalls dotted throughout the venue and the Q&As occurring throughout the day 🎬

‘Mom’s World’ is a short film that follows two siblings who have opposing views on how to deal with their mother’s dementia 🎬

Here’s @annbrown.writer, writer of ‘Mom’s World’, explaining how her lived life experience informed the storyline of the film, alongside what she hopes audiences will take from this project.

For today’s #ThrowbackThursday, we wanted to look back at #MHeFF24 and spotlight a handful of the talented filmmakers whose films were selected and screened at the first ever Manchester Health Film Festival 🍿📽️

Each of these filmmakers used their talents and creativity to give a voice to those with life limiting health conditions, in turn creating a platform for health discourse and promoting health advocacy, which is something each of these artists should be extremely proud of 🙌🏻

Keep your eyes peeled for future releases from these talented individuals, their talents know no bounds! 📺

Overall, 18 films were selected and screened at #MHeFF24 🍿📽️

No matter the genre, form or condition covered, each of these films had one theme in common… health!

From narrative films, to documentaries, to animations, each of these selected titles aided in breaking down stigmas and giving a voice to those with marginalised health conditions. So we wanted to take a look back at MHeFF 2024’s official selection, in order to spotlight the hard work of the cast and crews involved in making these projects a reality 🎞️

As it’s #ThrowbackThursday, we wanted to spotlight the work of our wonderful team during #MHeFF24 🎬

We’re kicking off 2025 with some major news… The Manchester Health Film Festival will return for its second instalment 🎬

Although dates and further details are yet to be confirmed, all major MHeFF news will be shared on this page, so stay tuned for all future updates. All we can say for now is that the second iteration of MHeFF will be ‘bigger, better and brighter’ 📺

In the meantime, we have plenty of content to share with you all going forward. So hop on board and join us on our journey to the second ever Manchester Health Film Festival, the biggest MHeFF yet! 🙌🏻

Those of you who attended #MHeFF24 will most likely remember this familiar face from the festival’s spur-of-the-moment ‘Laughter Yoga’ session 🎬

This is Sara Kay of @seriouslaughuk, who uses the superpower of laughter to boost mood during her ‘Laughter Yoga’ sessions, ultimately relieving stress and combating the blues 🤣

When asked about MHeFF24, Sara explained:

‘Having come into the MHeFF on a rainy day I was met with a warm welcome. Heading straight to the afternoon screening the variety of films and topics covered was both enlightening and entertaining. This made an absolutely perfect combination to broaden my knowledge on health subjects I knew nothing about. I was thrilled to offer my services to deliver a Laughter Yoga taster too, to create a dopamine-filled happiness boost!’

Sara will no doubt go down in the MHeFF Hall of Fame as a legend… If you know, you know! 🙌🏻
